RAED Organizes Consultative Workshop in Port Said for Journalists on the TeraMed Initiative and Renewable Energy Transition

The Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) is organizing a consultative workshop for journalists on the TeraMed Initiative, scheduled to take place on 25–26 April 2026 in Port Said. The workshop will bring together a distinguished group of experts, specialists, and media professionals, within the framework of supporting the transition toward renewable energy and strengthening the role of media in advancing this vital development pathway.

The workshop will feature a series of interactive and discussion sessions aimed at building a shared understanding among journalists of the objectives of the TeraMed Initiative. These sessions will also explore mechanisms for translating these objectives into impactful media content that contributes to raising public awareness of clean energy and just transition issues.

The opening session will emphasize the importance of integrating environmental and media efforts in supporting development initiatives. It will also introduce the TeraMed Initiative and trace its journey from concept to implementation. Furthermore, the second session will examine opportunities and challenges related to the just-transition to renewable energy, considering Egypt Vision 2030, as well as the priorities of the official sector in advancing a just renewable energy transition.

The third session will present an overview of the future of investment in the renewable energy sector and will also highlight Egypt’s role in achieving the TeraMed Initiative target, which aims to increase renewable energy production in the Mediterranean region to one terawatt by 2030.

The second day will place special emphasis on the media dimension. The fourth session will feature a working paper on the role of environmental media in supporting development initiatives, followed by an open discussion on how to transform environmental initiatives into compelling journalistic stories capable of attracting public interest and influencing public opinion. The fifth session will highlight the role of civil society organizations in advancing the renewable energy transition, and the importance of developing effective media messages that support the objectives of the TeraMed Initiative at both national and regional levels.

The consultative workshop will conclude with an expanded session to discuss mechanisms for cooperation between journalists and the TeraMed Initiative, including the production of joint investigations and reports, launching supportive media campaigns, and announcing a specialized media competition on renewable energy issues. This step aims to encourage professional coverage and foster innovation in environmental content.

In this context, RAED emphasizes that media is no longer merely a channel for information dissemination but has become a key partner in achieving sustainable development goals, through its ability to shape public awareness, guide societal dialogue, and support policies related to clean energy. The workshop represents a platform for establishing a network of specialized journalists capable of producing professional content that reflects the complexity of renewable energy issues in simplified language accessible to various segments of society, with the aim of enhancing active participation in sustainable development pathways.
