RAED’s Meeting to Combat Desertification Along the Northern Coast of Egypt’s Delta Region as Part of the “ABCDryBASIN” Project.

The Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) is documenting traditional knowledge and practices to combat desertification along the northern coast of Egypt’s Delta region as part of the “ABCDryBASIN” project. RAED recently held a meeting to discuss practical steps and the methodological framework for a study on local knowledge and practices in desertification control, as well as their social and economic impacts in parts of the northern Delta. The significance of this study lies in its potential to provide sustainable solutions to the challenges posed by desertification and climate change, which threaten vital agricultural areas in the Delta.

This study is being conducted within the framework of a regional project, “Enhancing Community Resilience to Drought by Integrating Traditional and Local Knowledge with Smart Water Management Tools in a Socially Equitable Manner.” This project aims to strengthen the resilience of communities affected by climate change and ensure the sustainability of water resources. It includes engaging stakeholders to assess their preparedness to face drought, while identifying strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, the project focuses on a comprehensive understanding of drought causes and impacts on vulnerable communities. Its results are expected to contribute to improved local resource management strategies and support sustainable development in these areas.
