Organized by RAED: Training Workshop for Media Professionals on Renewable Energy and Climate Change Policies Kicks Off

The training workshop for media professionals on renewable energy and climate change policies kicked off today, Saturday, in Port Said. Organized by the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) over two days, the workshop is held in support of the regional TeraMED campaign, which aims to raise renewable energy production in the Mediterranean Basin to an ambitious level of one terawatt by 2030.

The workshop comes amid growing efforts to strengthen the role of the media as a key partner in advancing sustainable development. RAED seeks to move the media’s role beyond merely reporting events, positioning it instead as an influential actor in shaping public awareness and building community support for the transition to clean energy. In this context, the workshop, held on 25–26 April 2026, aims to equip media professionals with the tools needed for professional coverage of renewable energy issues and to integrate them into the core of the TeraMED initiative as strategic partners in achieving its objectives.

Dr. Emad Adly, General Coordinator of the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED), emphasized that the primary objective of the workshop is to build a network of specialized media professionals capable of simplifying complex energy-related issues and presenting them in language that is accessible to the general public. He stressed that the success of any development initiative is closely linked to the media’s ability to shape collective awareness that supports change and embeds the concepts of sustainability within society.

The opening session includes a comprehensive overview of the dimensions of the TeraMED initiative, one of the most prominent regional initiatives supporting the transition to clean energy, with a focus on its central goal of reaching one terawatt of renewable energy production by 2030. The sessions also discuss ways to simplify technical concepts and complex data related to the energy sector and transform them into engaging and impactful media content. This, in turn, enhances public understanding of the importance of this transition and Egypt’s leading role in driving it at the regional level.

The first day’s activities address issues related to the just energy transition, as one of the core pillars of modern energy policies, while linking it to Egypt’s national priorities, particularly in terms of balancing economic growth with environmental protection. Participants also discussed investment opportunities in the clean energy sector, affirming that building bridges of shared understanding between media professionals and decision-makers is a fundamental pillar for shaping an informed public opinion that supports alternative energy policies.

On the second day, the workshop focuses on practical aspects and professional skills development. Specialized working papers are presented on the role of environmental media in transforming development initiatives into human-centered journalistic stories capable of creating real impact on the behavior of individuals and communities. The workshop also highlights the role of civil society organizations in supporting energy transition efforts by narrowing the gap between government policies and citizens’ needs through effective media messages that reflect the priorities of the TeraMED initiative at both national and regional levels.

The expected outcomes of the training workshop for media professionals are not limited to theoretical aspects. They also extend to proposing practical mechanisms for future cooperation, including an agreement to produce joint investigative pieces and press reports between media professionals and the initiative’s organizers, in addition to launching organized media campaigns aimed at raising community awareness of renewable energy issues. The workshop will also witness the announcement of a specialized media competition designed to encourage outstanding professional coverage and recognize the best journalistic works addressing clean energy issues through innovative approaches.
