RAED Coordinator in Yemen, Dr. Yaser Baazaab, Participates in a Workshop Titled “Strengthening Disaster Risk Management and Building Resilience”

The capital city Zinjibar hosted a training workshop under the theme “Strengthening Disaster Risk Management and Building Resilience.” The event was organized by the Tamkeen Foundation for Sustainable Development, under the patronage of Major General Abu Bakr Hussein Salem, Governor of Abyan, and with the participation of 25 leaders from the local authorities of Zinjibar and Khanfar districts.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Mahdi Mohammed Al-Hamed, Secretary-General of the Local Council and Deputy Governor, emphasized the importance of enhancing the capacity of local authority members in Zinjibar and Khanfar to improve disaster risk management. He stressed the need to equip them with the skills to face disasters and establish mechanisms for disaster risk reduction and early warning systems. He thanked the Tamkeen Foundation for organizing the workshop and commended the positive engagement of Dr. Yaser Baazaab, the workshop trainer.

Dr. Yaser Baazaab, Director General of Media and workshop trainer, presented the workshop’s key axes and highlighted its importance in building the skills and capacities of local authority leaders in Zinjibar and Khanfar for disaster risk reduction and early warning. He emphasized the need to incorporate disaster risk reduction policies into district-level planning. The workshop covered topics such as; the concept and types of disasters, early warning systems, climate change, the Hyogo Framework, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the top ten policies for resilient cities, and national, Arab, and international efforts in disaster risk reduction, as well as the role of local authorities in these efforts.
