During the Interreg NEXT MED Meeting: RAED Reaffirms Its Commitment to Supporting the Green Transition in the Arab Region
The Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) participated in the Second Call for Proposals event held by the Interreg NEXT MED program. The event took place at the Renaissance Cairo Mirage City Hotel on February 12, 2025, and aimed to provide details on project funding opportunities for green transition initiatives. The European Union has allocated a budget of €83.7 million to foster cross-Mediterranean cooperation for a sustainable environmental transition.
The event gathered representatives from government agencies, civil society organizations, academic institutions and the private sector. Discussions focused on shared environmental priorities, knowledge exchange and potential collaborations to implement projects that support the green transition in the Mediterranean region.
RAED’s participation in this meeting aligns with its commitment to promoting sustainable development in the Arab region located in the Mediterranean region and underscores the importance of regional partnerships and cooperation in addressing common environmental challenges. Through this engagement, RAED aims to expand its impact and strengthen its capabilities by leveraging the funding opportunities provided by the Interreg NEXT MED program.
The Second Call for Proposals prioritizes green transition projects, with 20% of the allocated budget (approximately €16 million) dedicated to supporting youth under 35 years old. This reflects the program’s commitment to empowering future generations and fostering their role in achieving sustainable development goals.
This meeting represents a significant step toward enhancing regional cooperation and uniting efforts to build a more sustainable and prosperous future for the Mediterranean region.
