RAED’s participation in the 11th meeting of the Arab Partnership for Disaster Risk Reduction
RAED participated in the 11th meeting of the Arab Partnership for Disaster Risk Reduction, held virtually via Zoom from October 28-30, 2024. Organized by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction’s Regional Office for Arab States, the meeting included representatives from Arab governments, stakeholders, and international partners to assess the region’s progress in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The meeting focused on evaluating Arab countries’ achievements under the Sendai Framework, particularly through the Priority Arab Action Plan (2021-2024). Representatives from various Arab nations provided updates on their national strategies, highlighting progress made in reducing disaster risks and identifying areas needing further investment. Many participants emphasized the increasing frequency of climate-related disasters and underscored the need to strengthen resilience at both national and local levels.
The meeting also addressed challenges faced by some countries, such as inadequate data on disaster impacts and the need to raise public awareness. Despite these obstacles, countries demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing disaster preparedness, with several reporting new policies, improved early warning systems and local capacity-building initiatives as positive steps forward.
