RAED Leads Dialogue on Localizing the Climate Strategy in Local Administration Plans
As part of the activities of the “Sustainable Energy in Egypt and Scaling Up Renewable Energy for Climate Security” initiative, the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) spearheaded a dialogue session to discuss approaches and mechanisms for localizing Egypt’s National Climate Change Strategy within the local plans of Luxor Governorate. The session took place during the 13th Arab Youth Environmental Forum, organized by the Arab Youth and Environment Union in the historic tourist city.
The event saw broad participation from representatives of relevant government entities, including Mr. Mohamed Hussein, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Luxor; Dr. Hanadi Hashem, representative of the Environmental Affairs Agency; and Dr. Mamdouh Rashwan, Secretary-General of the Arab Youth and Environment Union. Representatives from the Directorates of Agriculture, Youth and Sports, as well as civil society organizations that are members of the Local Forum for Sustainable Development in Luxor, joined alongside media professionals, experts, and specialists.
The dialogue focused on leveraging available opportunities to promote mechanisms for integrating Egypt’s Climate Change Strategy into all development programs and projects. It also included extensive discussions on key climate-related issues such as agriculture, waste management, and methods for enhancing environmental awareness. Special emphasis was placed on the pivotal role of civil society in addressing these challenges.
The discussions concluded with a set of recommendations to advance the localization of the National Climate Change Strategy within the plans of local administrations, both in Luxor and other governorates. These recommendations will be compiled and submitted to decision-makers in the governorate.
