Cooperation Between the Lebanese Environmental Gathering and the Ministry of Information to Sponsor the TeraMed Initiative

In a step reflecting a growing commitment to supporting the transition to clean energy, the Lebanese Environmental Gathering, a member of the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) in Lebanon, announced a joint collaboration with the Ministry of Information to sponsor the media campaign of the TeraMed Initiative for a Just Energy Transition. This cooperation comes within the framework of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties.

Under the agreement, the Lebanese Minister of Information, Dr. Paul Morcos, has placed the initiative’s media campaign, launched by the Lebanese Environmental Gathering, under the Ministry’s patronage. The campaign aims to enhance public awareness of the importance of adopting clean and renewable energy sources and their role in mitigating global warming and addressing the impacts of climate change.

The campaign includes a series of media and awareness-raising activities to introduce the concept of a just energy transition and promote the use of renewable energy sources. It will also mobilize advocacy efforts across media, community, governmental, and private-sector levels, contributing to the encouragement of behaviors and initiatives that support a shift toward more sustainable production and consumption patterns.

In this context, Eng. Malek Ghandour, President of the Lebanese Environmental Gathering, emphasized that the Ministry of Information’s sponsorship of the TeraMed media campaign represents a significant boost to environmental action in Lebanon and the wider region. He noted that the initiative is not merely an awareness program, but rather a regional platform for mobilizing public opinion and decision-makers around the urgent need to accelerate the transition to renewable energy amid escalating climate challenges.

Ghandour added that the collaboration with the Ministry reflects official recognition of the vital role media plays in shaping environmental awareness and guiding public policy. He explained that the campaign will highlight successful models and leading practices in renewable energy, while encouraging local innovation in this critical sector.

He further indicated that the program will announce “Renewable Energy Champions”, innovators and pioneering initiatives contributing to the achievement of TeraMed’s objectives, foremost among them reaching one terawatt of renewable energy production in the Mediterranean Basin by 2030. This strategic target underpins the initiative’s commitment to advancing sustainable development across the region.

The President of the Lebanese Environmental Gathering affirmed that the upcoming phase will witness intensified media activities and institutional partnerships to foster a more favorable investment climate for clean energy and support efforts to reduce carbon emissions. He stressed that a just energy transition is an indispensable development choice to ensure a more sustainable environmental and economic future for coming generations.
