The Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) participated in the 24th Meeting of the Arab Working Group on the United Nations Conventions to Combat Desertification and on Biological Diversity, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.

The meeting brought together representatives of Arab countries, as well as relevant regional and international organisations. RAED representatives contributed to the technical discussions on the Arab region’s priorities in combating desertification and preserving biodiversity.

The meeting aimed to facilitate the exchange of expertise, coordinate Arab positions, and formulate a unified negotiating vision ahead of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17), scheduled to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, next August.

The discussions addressed several priority issues, most notably drought, land restoration, land degradation neutrality, financing, technology transfer, capacity building, and enhanced regional coordination. These efforts aim to unify the Arab position and advocate for the region’s priorities during international negotiations.

RAED’s participation in these meetings reflects its commitment to supporting joint Arab action and contributing its technical expertise in the fields of environment and sustainable development. This engagement contributes to advancing environmental policies, strengthening efforts to combat desertification, restoring ecosystems, and promoting sustainable development throughout the Arab region.
