“Together” Marks World Environment Day 2026 with Large-Scale Tree-Planting Campaign in Baghdad

As part of celebrations marking World Environment Day 2026, the Together Association for the Protection of People and the Environment, a member of the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) in Iraq, organized a tree-planting campaign at Al-Mansour Scout Camp in the Al-Ghazaliya district of Baghdad.

The campaign was supported by a French maritime shipping company and coordinated with the General Directorate of Physical Education and School Activities and the Green House, with the participation of representatives from the Iraqi Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Police in Baghdad.

The campaign aimed to enhance environmental awareness among students, scouts, and volunteers; promote a culture of tree planting and social responsibility; and expand green spaces within the scout camp. These efforts support broader initiatives to improve the local environment, advance climate action, and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The initiative witnessed broad participation from the association’s members and volunteers, scout students, government representatives, and supporting partners. Participants worked together to plant trees throughout the camp, providing a practical demonstration of the importance of volunteerism and collective action in protecting the environment.

The campaign included the donation and planting of 100 fruit-bearing and evergreen tree seedlings, helping to improve the camp’s environmental landscape and establish a sustainable green space that students and participants in scouting activities can enjoy for years to come.

The Together Association for the Protection of People and the Environment emphasized that the initiative forms part of a series of environmental programs and activities implemented in cooperation with government institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations. These efforts seek to promote a culture of environmental protection, strengthen the participation of young people and students in voluntary initiatives, and reinforce community partnerships in addressing environmental and climate-related challenges.

The association added that tree-planting campaigns are an effective tool for improving the quality of urban environments, mitigating the impacts of climate change, and raising awareness of the importance of conserving natural resources. It noted that engaging younger generations in such activities contributes to building a sustainable environmental culture founded on participation and responsibility.

The campaign demonstrated a successful model of cooperation among civil society organizations, the private sector, government authorities, and educational institutions. By combining environmental awareness with practical fieldwork, the initiative also helped strengthen the values of teamwork and community service.

At the conclusion of the event, the association expressed its appreciation for the support provided by the French company and for the constructive cooperation of the General Directorate of Physical Education and School Activities and the Green House. It also commended the active participation of the Ministry of Environment and the Environmental Police in Baghdad.

The association stressed that the initiative’s success was also attributable to the outstanding efforts of the volunteers and scout students, whose contributions played a central role in ensuring the success of the environmental campaign and achieving its objectives.
