Since the launch of its first session in 2008, the annual conference of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority in the United Arab Emirates has formed a platform, the first of its kind in the Gulf region and the Middle East, to discuss everything new in the field of emergency and crisis management, in an effort to unify global efforts in This field, in light of the increasing threats and risks around the world.

The Emergency and Crisis Management Summit “Abu Dhabi 2023” was held under the patronage of Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and National Security Advisor, with the participation of more than 20 senior officials in national, regional and global bodies concerned with security, emergency and crisis management, in addition to an elite group of Experts, specialists and interested parties, representing more than 11 countries.

This year’s edition of the Emergency and Crisis Management Summit was distinguished from previous conferences by transforming it into an international event, with the aim of providing the opportunity to hold meetings between experts and specialists in the field of emergency and crisis management, whether representatives of government agencies, international organizations, or the armed forces and other relevant agencies. In addition to representatives of foreign embassies and bodies, and representatives of major companies working in this field.

The “Abu Dhabi 2023” summit witnessed distinguished participation by the Arab Network for Environment and Development “Raed,” represented by the network’s general coordinator, Dr. Imad El-Din Adly, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development, who delivered a speech during the activities of the second day of the summit, during a session entitled “Preparing society for emergencies and crises,” which emphasized the importance of community awareness in confronting crises and disasters.

The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority set a set of goals in mind, through this summit, whose activities were held over the course of May 9 and 10, the most important of which is providing a global platform to enhance partnerships, international cooperation and exchange experiences, in addition to consolidating the concept of resilience, through… Reviewing global best practices in emergency, crisis and disaster management.

The summit also aimed to anticipate future risks and developments, with the aim of strengthening the global response to cross-border crises and emergencies, through a harmonious international cooperative approach, as well as enhancing the reputation of the United Arab Emirates, highlighting national capabilities, specialized cadres, and the unique Emirati model in the field of emergency, crisis and disaster management.

The “Abu Dhabi 2023” summit came out with a set of recommendations, which could form a future road map for managing emergencies and crises, including emphasizing the importance of confronting the new generation of risks driven by economic conditions, in addition to the importance of planning emergency response operations, and enhancing cooperation between all parties of the emergency and crisis system. First and foremost are civil society institutions.

The recommendations also included establishing education and training as a basis for improving the performance of emergency and crisis institutions, developing more efficient international standards for the governance of emergency and crisis management, and continuing coordination, cooperation and integration between countries and organizations supporting local emergency and crisis institutions, to establish confidence in the exchange of information and expertise between international organizations and different countries and regions of the world. .

Likewise, the summit recommended employing technology and modern applications of artificial intelligence and big data in the national emergency and crisis management system, and raising the cultural level of members of society, with the aim of strengthening society’s immunity against dangers, and building a more sustainable future for future generations, to enhance international climate action, as well as investing in cities. To reduce the economic impact of future crises caused by climate change.

At the conclusion of the summit, the Chairman of the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, Ali Saeed Al Neyadi, accompanied by a number of the Authority’s leaders, honored the speakers and session managers, during the activities that lasted over two days, and stressed that the success of the Emergency and Crisis Management Summit this year is a challenge for the next edition.
