The Egyptian Forum is Vice-Chairman of the Mediterranean Committee for Sustainable Development

A new regional step taken by the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development successfully, as the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development was elected Vice-Chairman of the Mediterranean Committee for Sustainable Development for a period of two years, during the first day of the 19th meeting of the Mediterranean Committee, which will be held virtually during the period from 7 to 9 June 2021.

In his speech during the opening session of the 19th meeting of the Mediterranean Committee, Dr. Emad El-Din Adly, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Forum for Sustainable Development, expressed his thanks for the confidence of the members of the Committee in electing the Egyptian Forum as Vice-Chairman of the Committee, representing non-governmental organizations, and stressed the role that the Forum will play at the level At the national level in Egypt, and at the regional level, through the network of national forums for sustainable development in the Arab countries bordering the Mediterranean.

The Mediterranean Commission for Sustainable Development (MCSD) was established in 1995, under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme/MAP, in accordance with Article 4 of the Barcelona Convention, as an advisory body to Contracting Parties to assist them in their efforts to make environmental issues part of Its social and economic programs and the promotion of sustainable development policies in the Mediterranean region and countries.

The Committee is considered a forum for exchanging experiences and learning from peers, and includes 22 members from government representatives, and 18 members from relevant stakeholders from various groups such as representatives of local authorities, civil society organizations, social and economic actors, intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), the scientific community and parliamentarians. .

The Mediterranean Committee is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activation of the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development, as a strategic framework document for all stakeholders and partners, to translate the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, which it includes at the regional, subregional, national and local levels, and works to support the implementation of the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development, Through the United Nations Environment Programme/MAP, the Barcelona Convention system, and in particular through the work of the Mediterranean Commission for Sustainable Development.

At the national level, this achievement is considered an important step in representing Egyptian civil society in this important Mediterranean committee, which will contribute greatly to the transfer and exchange of experiences at the national and regional levels, and will also have the power to influence in defining and arranging our national priorities within the framework of the participatory vision with the relevant national authorities.
