TeraMed Initiative

The TeraMED Initiative is a collaborative effort aimed at advancing renewable energy adoption across the Mediterranean region. Launched on October 1, 2024, the initiative focuses on utilizing the region’s vast solar and wind potential to contribute to sustainable development, energy security, and regional integration. The project aims to install 1 terawatt (TW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030, aligning with global climate targets and the UAE Consensus goal of tripling renewable energy capacity worldwide.

Location
The project covers North Africa, Southern Europe, and the Eastern Mediterranean, with specific activities in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Spain, and Portugal.

Main Objective
To accelerate the transition to renewable energy in the Mediterranean region by installing 1 terawatt (TW) of clean energy capacity by 2030, thereby supporting global efforts to mitigate climate change, enhance energy security, and drive economic growth.

Goals:

  • Promote Renewable Energy Policies: Encourage governments to adopt supportive policies.
  • Strengthen Regional Cooperation: Foster collaboration between Mediterranean countries.
  • Enhance Investment and Innovation: Attract private sector investments and support technological advancements.
  • Expand Clean Energy Access: Improve electricity access in underserved communities.
  • Support Climate Change Strategies: Assist in implementing national climate action plans.
