In Partnership with the Journalists Syndicate and RAED Network,Training Workshop on “Climate Journalism and Disaster Risk Reduction” is held in Yemen
The Southern Journalists and Media Professionals Syndicate in Yemen has announced the organization of a training workshop on “Climate Journalism and Enhancing Community Engagement in Disaster Risk Reduction Measures.” The workshop is being held in collaboration with the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) and the Abyan Development Foundation, as part of the Syndicate’s ongoing partnership with civil society organizations and relevant stakeholders.
In preparation for the workshop, Eidaroos Bahashwan, Head of the Southern Journalists and Media Professionals Syndicate, held a coordination meeting to follow up on the organizational procedures. The meeting was attended by Dr. Yasser Baazeb, Head of the Training and Capacity Building Department, and Ali Siqali, Deputy Chair of the Organizing Committee at the Syndicate. The meeting included a detailed presentation of the workshop’s objectives and training components, which is expected to engage 30 participants, including journalists, media professionals, civil society representatives, legal experts, academics and individuals with special needs.
Dr. Yasser Baazeb, who also serves as RAED’s Country Coordinator in Yemen, emphasized that this training workshop forms part of the Syndicate’s broader plan to build the capacities of journalists, media professionals and other community actors in disaster risk reduction, particularly in light of accelerating climate change and the growing frequency of natural disasters—which claim thousands of lives and result in significant damage to property, infrastructure and livelihoods each year.
