Egyptian Ghada Ahmedin, Program Director at the Arab Network for Environment and Development “Raed”, was elected as a member of the Global Council of the International Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Risk Reduction (GNDR), for the North Africa and West Asia region, for a period of two years, until 2025, to retain Raed Network holds the same seat, which it previously held for two consecutive terms, representing the Arab region in the World Council.

Ahmedin’s victory for the regional seat in the Global Council of the Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Risk Reduction came after strong competition with a number of candidates from other countries, where the Egyptian candidate received the highest votes in the secret elections that took place recently, with the participation of 196 member organizations of the network. Universal countries in North Africa and West Asia, who are entitled to vote.

The Raed Network Program Director received a joint message from the Executive Director of the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Risk Reduction, the Argentine Marcos Concepcion Raba, the Uruguayan Graciela Salaberry, President of the Global Council, and the Filipino Zenaida Willison, Head of the Governance Task Force, to congratulate her on her selection to represent North Africa and West Asia (NAWA) region of the network’s global council.

The Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Risk Reduction (GNDR) is the largest international network of civil society organizations that works to enhance the resilience of societies and reduce the risks that may result from various disasters. The network includes more than 1,500 organizations from more than 127 countries. Various parts of the world.

The nomination of Ghada Ahmadin for membership in the Global Council of the Disaster Risk Reduction Network came based on a proposal submitted by a number of members of the “Raed” network, during the meeting that the network held virtually last February, headed by Dr. Imad El-Din Adly, the general coordinator of the network, in the presence of committee members. Regional consultation for the global network from “Raed” coordinators, to agree on the Arab network’s candidate for membership in the global council.

The name of the program director at “Raed” was put forward, given her experience with the global network, her acceptance by all the coordinators, and her closeness to the general coordinator, which increased her experience and competence for this position. The proposal received the support of the network’s coordinators, who stressed the importance of this site in enhancing the role of “Raed.” » Within the Global Network for Disaster Risk Reduction, and strengthening cooperation among all its member Arab organizations.

“Ahmdeen” expressed her happiness at being elected as a member of the Global Council of the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Risk Reduction, and expressed her hopes that she would live up to the great responsibility entrusted to her, while the “Raed” coordinators congratulated her on this great trust that she enjoys among them. Likewise, Dr. Imad Al-Din Adly expressed his happiness with this high spirit, synergy and integration among the members of the “Raed” network, stressing that the Arab network succeeded in achieving what the large organizations could not achieve, considering that everyone within the “Raed” network works as a single bloc.
