Campaign to Plant 850 Trees in Qarun Protected Area as Part of the “Green Road” Project

As part of the ongoing implementation of the third phase of the Small Initiatives Program for Civil Society Organizations in North Africa (PPI OSCAN3), a partnership between RAED Network for Environment and Development and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) – Mediterranean Cooperation Center, the Youth Foundation for Development and Creativity has announced a campaign to plant 850 trees along the road leading to the Qarun Protected Area in Fayoum Governorate. The campaign is scheduled for Tuesday, February 11, 2025.

This initiative is part of the “Green Road” project, one of three projects in Egypt funded under the Small Initiatives Program for Civil Society Organizations. The campaign will be implemented in collaboration with the Local Forum for Sustainable Development in Fayoum, a team of young volunteer leaders, and various local authorities, including the Presidency of Youssef Al-Siddiq Center and City, and the Nature Reserves Sector in Fayoum.

The “Green Road” project team has finalized preparations for the campaign by coordinating with the National Afforestation Committee to ensure compliance with technical requirements related to tree species and national afforestation plans.

In addition to tree planting, the campaign will feature awareness activities aimed at educating young people on the importance of environmental conservation, with a special focus on biodiversity protection. The project also seeks to provide solutions and contributions to ecosystem restoration. As one of the key initiatives promoting biodiversity conservation, the “Green Road” project plays a vital role in combating desertification.
