Awareness Seminar for the Seed Bank Project Targets Middle School Girls in Aswan
As part of the third phase of the Small-Scale Initiatives Program for Civil Society Organizations in North Africa (PPI OSCAN3), and within the activities of the “Seed Bank in Aswan” project implemented by the Benban Energy Investors Association, an environmental awareness seminar was organized at “Badreya Hamed” School for middle school girls. The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students about the importance of seed banks and to educate them on their role in environmental conservation.
The seminar covered several key topics, including an introduction to seed banks, their significance in ensuring the long-term survival of various plant species and methods for collecting seeds and selecting suitable species. It also explained storage techniques, such as storing at low temperatures and in dry environments, as well as the importance of genetic diversity in preserving plant life. At the end of the seminar, an open discussion was held on how students can contribute to protecting plant diversity.
The Small-Scale Initiatives Program for Civil Society Organizations in North Africa (PPI OSCAN3) is being implemented in collaboration between the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Regional Cooperation Office for the Mediterranean.
