The Ministry of Local Development praised the efforts of the local platform of the “Our Country Hosts the 27th Climate Summit” initiative in Luxor Governorate, in confronting climate change, in light of the state’s directions towards achieving a better life for citizens, and within the framework of the Ministry’s keenness to improve the quality of life for the Egyptian family, through an acceleration project. Local response to the population issue, implemented by the Ministry.
The Ministry of Local Development confirmed, in a statement, that in light of the preparation for the Climate Conference (COP-27), and in implementation of the assignments of Major General Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Local Development, of the importance of activating the role of population units in the governorates for their contribution to building the Egyptian human being and making him aware of his important role in preserving the environment. The Ministry’s Central Population Unit, headed by Dr. Fatima Al-Zahraa Gill, followed up on the activities and events carried out by the Population Unit at the General Office of Luxor Governorate, under the patronage of Counselor Mostafa Elham, Governor of Luxor.
The Ministry indicated, in its statement, that the Population Unit in Luxor Governorate, in cooperation with the local platform of the “Our Country Hosts the 27th Climate Summit” initiative in the governorate, implemented 3 seminars recently, in the cities of Armant, El-Toud, and Qurna, on climate change, as part of a series of seminars and awareness-raising activities regarding the harmful effects of climate change. The challenges of climate change, its impact on the environment, society and individuals, and the impact of climate fluctuations on the necessities of sustaining life on planet Earth, and on human life in general.
These seminars were implemented within the activities of the “Our Country Hosts the 27th Climate Summit” initiative, launched by the Arab Bureau for Youth and Environment Association, headed by Dr. Imad El-Din Adly, in preparation for the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-27), hosted by the city of Sharm El-Sheikh. , in South Sinai Governorate, during the period from 6 to 18 next November.
A number of NGOs and civil society organizations also participated in these seminars, which were held in the presence of heads of local units, Raja Shawqi Ahmed, Director of the Population Unit in Luxor Governorate, Ahmed Al-Iraqi, Coordinator of Community Responsibility in the Unit, members of the Regional Population Council in the Governorate, and leaders of the city councils of Arment and Al-Toud. Gurna, and members of the local platform of the “Our Country Hosts the 27th Climate Summit” initiative in Luxor.
Raja Shawqi, Director of the Population Unit, revealed that the unit, in cooperation with the local platform of the initiative, is organizing a general conference on climate change during the month of August, within the framework of continuing to implement many activities and events, with the aim of spreading awareness of climate change issues and shedding light on What achievements have been achieved in this field, in addition to introducing the climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The “Climate Changes: Challenges and Solutions” conference is scheduled to be held on August 10, 2022, at the International Conference Center in Luxor, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, and under the supervision of Counselor Mostafa Elham, Governor of Luxor, with the participation of the Ministry of Local Development and the Ministry of Social Solidarity. The Population Unit in Luxor Governorate, the Arab Bureau for Youth and Environment Association, and the “Our Country Hosts the 27th Climate Summit” initiative, represented by the local platform of the initiative in Luxor Governorate.
The Ministry of Local Development statement indicated that Dr. Fatima Al-Zahraa Gill, Head of the Central Population Unit at the Ministry of Local Development, will participate in the conference sessions with a working paper entitled “Climate changes and their direct role in changing the demographic map of the population in Egypt,” as this conference comes in preparation for hosting the Climate Summit ( COP-27) in Sharm El-Sheikh next November.
