Afforestation of “Ashtoum El-Gamil” as Part of the “Green Path” Project to Promote Biodiversity
As part of the “Green Path” project implemented by the Youth for Development and Creativity Foundation under the Small Initiatives Program for Civil Society Organizations in North Africa (PPI-OSCAN), and in partnership with the Arab Network for Environment and Development (RAED) and the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation, the foundation has launched its first field activities by planting trees around the Ashtoum El-Gamil Nature Reserve in Port Said Governorate.
The “Green Path” project is being carried out in coordination with the Environmental Affairs Agency and the Nature Reserves Directorate. It aims to promote biodiversity by restoring ecosystems in areas surrounding several nature reserves in Egypt. This initiative is part of a comprehensive plan to develop ecological systems and support sustainable ecotourism.
The selection of the Ashtoum El-Gamil Nature Reserve as a project site followed an extensive study and a series of field visits to this reserve and six others across five governorates. The “Green Path” project seeks to enhance the ecosystem around these reserves and boost tourism appeal in the targeted areas.
