RAED’s Presentation at the Sixth Meeting of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction

RAED actively participated in the sixth meeting of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction through a presentation delivered by Dr. Emad El-Din Adly, the General Coordinator. The presentation focused on the regional survey study addressing human mobility in the context of disasters and climate change in the Arab region. This study was mandated as part of the decisions from the fifth session of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction, held in June 2023 in Rabat, Morocco. Participants expressed strong support for the study, recognizing it as a potential Arab reference document that could guide policymakers and relevant organizations across the region.
The study, conducted by RAED and titled “Strategies and Policies for Development, Climate Change Adaptation, and Disaster Risk Reduction: The Consideration of Human Mobility Resulting from Disasters and Climate Change in the Arab Region,” was well-received.
Dr. Adly outlined the key objectives of the study, which included an analysis of current regional and national policies, as well as frameworks for sustainable development, climate change adaptation, and disaster risk reduction. The study also assessed how these policies account for human mobility triggered by climate change and disasters, while identifying potential avenues for further integration and proposing the necessary technical support. Additionally, he highlighted plans to collaborate with interested countries on technical assistance for incorporating disaster-related human mobility into their policies, in close coordination with the League of Arab States. Dr. Adly also presented the study’s key recommendations
